Automated Stability Analyzer for Residual Refinery Streams and Heavy Fuel Oils
The Automated Stability Analyzer (ASA) is designed for the detailed analysis of residual refinery streams and heavy fuel oils. Utilizing the latest fiber optic technology, it accurately detects the flocculation point of asphaltenes, providing a reliable measure of oil stability. With a focus on automation, this analyzer significantly reduces the need for manual operation, enhancing repeatability and accuracy of results.
Key features include:
- Accurate determination of P-value and Po/FRmax for residual and heavy fuel oils
- Compliance with ASTM D7060 and Shell Methods SMS 1600/SMS 2715
- Uses commonly available parts for ease of maintenance
- Automated operations that significantly reduce manual labor
The ASA uses fiber optics to detect light reflections from asphaltene precipitation on an optrode, allowing for precise identification of the instability point. Its Windows-compatible software provides automated control, data analysis, and peptizing power calculations. This analyzer is an essential tool for refineries and oil testing laboratories, delivering reliable data for evaluating fuel stability.

- Simplified Data Processing: A computer-based system running Windows software allows for easy analysis and reporting, enhancing data management.
Measuring Principle:
- The Automated Stability Analyzer employs fiber optic technology to detect asphaltene flocculation. By measuring the reflection of light on the glass surface of the optical sensor (Optrode device), the point of instability is precisely identified.
Additional Notes:
- The ASA integrates two titration units and requires specific reagents, such as Cetane (ASTM grade) and 1-methylnaphthalene (95% minimum purity).
- The analyzer setup includes reaction cells, fiber optical sensors, and a computer with dedicated software.
- An optional analytical balance is needed, to prepare the sample. Please ask us if you don’t have this available at your laboratory
